Durham County Family Court

Information provided by: Durham System of Care

Durham is one of eleven judicial districts in North Carolina that provide Family Court as one of its core functions of the judicial system. The mission of our Family Court is to provide a less adversarial forum for the fair, just, and prompt resolution of family disputes. Family Court staff members help families by coordinating "Domestic Court" cases like divorce or custody, and "Juvenile Court" cases, which involve children who have been charged with a crime or children who have been removed from their families because of alleged of abuse, neglect and/or dependence. In addition to scheduling court hearings and other court events, Family Court staff members can help families understand the court process and can answer questions about the status of a case. Family Court staff members cannot give legal advice or interpret court orders. We pledge to protect and preserve the rights of family members-treating all with courtesy, professionalism, and respect.
