Youth Villages

Information provided by: Durham System of Care

Youth Villages is a non profit organization that provides services across the southeastern region of the United States. In North Carolina Youth Villages provides Multi-Systemic Therapy. Multi-Systemic Therapy(MST), Intercept, High Fidelity Wraparound, and LIfeSet. MST is a evidenced based in-home family therapy treatment model. MST focuses on 5 systems: peer, community, school, family, and individual (child). An MST therapist is on-call 24/7, meets around the family’s schedules (evenings, weekends, early mornings) and develops weekly treatment plans for the family. MST is focused on helping a client remain in the community by teaching and supporting the parents or guardians in developing the appropriate skills to handle their child’s behaviors. Multi-Systemic Therapy has evidence showing high success rates with adolescents ages 10-17 years old. MST’s target population is children who are at risk of being placed out of the home. This can include children involved in Department of Juvenile Justice or Department of Social Services, children with truancy needs, and substance abuse needs. MST typically last 3-5 months in treatment duration. The exclusionary criteria for potential clients include: children who are actively suicidal, homicidal, or psychotic without medication stabilization; children with no viable family placement; children in non-family foster home and children who will not be returning within 30 days of the referral. The Intercept intensive in-home services program is an effective alternative treatment for children and youth who otherwise would be placed in foster care, residential treatment, detention centers, hospitals or other juvenile facilities. Diverting youth from these out-of-home placements, Intercept family intervention specialists provide systemic family therapy in order to preserve family attachment and increase problem solving skills for both youth and caregivers. LifeSet is an individualized, evidence-informed community-based program that is highly intensive. LifeSet specialists meet with participants face to face at least once each week. They text, email and call young people regularly throughout the week, when needed. Specialists stabilize even the toughest situations and help young people build healthy relationships, obtain safe housing, education and employment. LifeSet is one of the nation’s first — and now one of the largest — evidence-informed programs helping young people who age out of foster care. More than 20,000 young people have helped through LifeSet across the country since the program began in 1999. HFW assists youth and family in achieving the changes they want for their lives. The interactive, team-based approach employs ten principles and four phases to help families: reach their desired outcomes develop skills, confidence, and natural support systems for the future
