Area hospitals help health-care workers with child care needs

Locally, health care leaders are making arrangements to help workers needing day care for their children.

Cleveland Clinic Akron General has set up childcare in small groups with signups at its health and wellness centers, said Dr. Brain Harte, health care system president.

When schools closed, he said, the hospital did not have a lot of workers calling off. Workers seem to have figured out ways to care for their children, he said.

At Summa Health, health care workers can use the YMCA that is near the Akron City Hospital campus.

The Akron Area YMCA applied received four temporary pandemic child care licenses from the state, said spokeswoman Judi Christy. The state specified the four YMCA day cares that it wanted to stay open, Christy said, and they are near hospitals and other areas where there are essential workers.

Akron Children's Hospital has launched a classified ad service for employees, said Lisa Aurillo, chief operating officer.

"If I have a teenager, and you have a child, we can connect you," she said.
