There are also 25 overflow mats that supplement the bed space when needed. Sign ups for the Community Shelter are held between 10am and noon on Mondays and Thursdays. The Journey program provides all of the services of the Weekly Shelter Program, plus a longer term shelter commitment, a structured approach to recovery or lifestyle change, increased case management and coordinated referrals to others in Durham's Homeless Continuum of Care Network. Durham County residents may receive groceries and clothing once in a 30-day period from UMD's Food Pantry and Clothing Closet. Clothing is available to anyone in need, while households must have children or elderly or disabled members to be eligible for groceries. We assist up to 26 households per day during the hours of operation. Hours of service are Monday-Thursday from 9-11 a.m. The UMD Community Café serves three meals a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to shelter residents and anyone else in need of a meal.
There are no client fees for any of UMD's services.
