Meals on Wheels of Durham is a group of volunteers who deliver hot, low-fat meals to isolated, disabled, etc. seniors (and others in need); a bag lunch for Saturday is delivered with Friday’s hot lunch; income-eligible people receive meals free of charge, others are asked to pay for part or all of their meals. Durham County Department of Social Services’ Adult Services division can arrange subsidized (free) meals for elderly, disabled, or homebound residents; no income requirements, but a home visit will determine need. Volunteer opportunities are available.

MoW stepped in when I was unable to feed myself and my husband (both disabled at that time). Their amazing and friendly volunteers were dependable, cheerful, and uplifting. The food they delivered was delicious, nutritious, and filling. Over time I was better able to care for us and we were able to survive without MoW, but I will never forget how they were there when desperately needed.
