Mental health resources in Goodhue County: Demystifying what is available locally

The Kenyon Leader - 6/26/2018

Recently there has been increased media coverage on many topics related to mental health, including suicide and resources. It can be confusing what resources we have in our area and how to connect with them.

In our region, we have the Crisis Response for Southeast Minnesota that has been providing a way for adults, adolescents and children to reach out for help when in crisis.

There has been some coverage about the call center, Canvas Health, which the Crisis Response uses will no longer be operating after June. While this is concerning, it is important to know that there is problem solving and swift planning happening in our region so this service will continue. We are currently examining utilizing other vendors and the hope is people utilizing it will not be impacted (including the phone number).

Crisis Response employs Mental Health Practitioners and Professionals that are available by phone and can dispatched to the location of the person in crisis if needed. We want people to clearly understand that this will be continuing. This is a 24 hour/7 days per week service. The phone number for Crisis Response is 1-844-CRISIS2 or 1-844-274-7472.

In addition to Crisis Response, there is Crisis Text Line (formerly Text 4 Life). To utilize this service, text MN to 741741. You will receive a response quickly from a professional to assist you.

There also is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

If you have questions about local resources, you may call Goodhue County Health & Human Services Social Services Intake at 651-385-3232.

Editor's note: Why not add these departments and their phone numbers into your cell phone contacts right now? It would also be a good idea to print this information and place it somewhere easily accessible and visible, such as on the refrigerator door.
