Franklin County Family YMCA hires new assistant director

Smith Mountain Eagle - 8/24/2016

Rocky Mount, Va. (August 18, 2016) - The Franklin County Family YMCA has hired Meagan Bonestele as an Assistant Director of Aquatics at its Rocky Mount facility.

Ms. Bonestele brings extensive experience in aquatics having taught swim lessons in the past and swam competitively for 5 years. In addition she has teaching experience, child care services for ages 2 to 18 years, licensing compliance, youth development, and management oversight. In addition, she is certified for First Aid, CPR and MAT.

Meagan graduated from Mary Baldwin College with a liberal arts degree and has resided in this region for most of her life. Her work experience includes administrative positions with multiple local child care organizations as well as hands on teaching experience, skills which she plans to apply in the aquatics area of the YMCA through swim programs, special events and community engagement programs.

"I'm excited about beginning my work with the YMCA. Franklin County is an amazing place. Having grown up around the lake, I understand how important aquatics are for Franklin County children and how important a part of the Y's mission it is," says Bonestele.

Ms. Bonestele began her new position with the YMCA this week and has become an integral part of the YMCA's 2nd grade swim program that teaches all 2nd graders water safety swim lessons throughout the school year. Her recent hiring is an indication of growth and improvements in the Y's aquatic program that has recently seen a resurfacing of the pool area, replacing of underwater light fixtures, fresh paint and the instillation of a significantly more energy efficient heating system.

"I'd like to invite everyone out to see all the great changes happening in YMCA aquatics. The Y is so important in our community and I'm happy to be a part of it," says Bonestele.
