BRIEF: In the zone: Area first responders visited the KidZone Preschool and Child Care Center

Times-Tribune (Corbin, KY) - 6/25/2016

June 25--Area first responders visited the KidZone Preschool and Child Care Center inside the Parkway Church of God Friday morning as part of the center's "community helpers" week. West Knox Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Ray Hollingsworth brought one of the station's tankers out to show children what kind of equipment a fire truck is outfitted with and what purpose they serve. (ABOVE): Hollingsworth holds an LED light that is used at helicopter landing zones at night so the pilot can distinguish the zone's perimeter. Due to the high winds from the helicopter's propeller, Hollingsworth said that the lights have strong magnets inside them so they can be placed on a heavy, round piece of metal to keep them from being blown away. (TOP) One of the children takes a moment to do his own investigation as he peers through the utility cabinet in the back of the fire truck. Corbin Police Col. David Maiden (not pictured) also visited the center, allowing the children to inspect his cruiser and showing them how to use handcuffs.
