Walton & Tipton Township Public Library to hold Mental Health Awareness event in May

Pharos-Tribune - 3/7/2024

Mar. 7—The Walton & Tipton Township Public Library will host a Mental Health Awareness event from 4:30-7 p.m. on May 2 in the library Community Room.

The event will see various organizations and businesses attending to provide mental health resources. The list currently includes Four County Counseling Center, Youth Services Alliance, Cass County Zero Suicide Task Force, Logansport State Hospital, Mental Health America — Wabash Valley Region, Inc., American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Project HOPE 929 Inc. and Stand UP Cass County, according to Library Director Kristi Hileman.

United Way of Cass County, which will also be attending, has also given a $3,000 grant to the library to support the program, Hileman said.

A guest speaker will also be at the event, but has not been determined. Assistant Director Beth Sullivan, who came up with the idea for the event, said she wanted to reach out to the community and do something to help.

"We just want to bring awareness to our youth and let everybody know that there is help out there. We're going to concentrate on suicide prevention, bullying, drug use and mental health," Sullivan said. "And we just want to make sure people know that there's options out there."

The event is free to attend and to those who want to hand out information. Anyone who would like to participate should call the library at 574-626-2234 or email waltonlibrary@walton.lib.in.us. The deadline to set up a booth is April 18 by 6 p.m. Tables and chairs will be provided.

"We're welcoming anybody who would like to participate in the program, whether they just want to come and speak to individuals or have a booth available," Hileman said.
