Things
You Can Do
Think You Have a Problem?
• You are not alone.
• Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
Getting help is the second.
• You can go right now to a free, confidential
support group like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics
Anonymous. Call Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
• For drug and alcohol treatment programs, call
Drug and Alcohol Resource Center or visit www.adp.state.ca.us.
• If you have a problem with inhalants, call Inhalants.
Prevention
• It’s best to avoid drugs from the start.
• Feeling very stressed? See a counselor.
• Fighting the urge to drink or use drugs? Spend
time with nonusers.
• Worried about addiction to medication? Talk
to your doctor.
• Never drink or use drugs before driving or operating
machinery.
• Mixing drugs and alcohol can be deadly.
• Sharing drug needles can spread HIV and hepatitis.
Get tested and treated. Call STD/HIV Hotline.
• For more information, call Drug and Alcohol
Resource Center or visit www.adp.state.ca.us.
Time to Quit Smoking
Quitting is hard, but not impossible. Commit to quit
now! For help, call California Smokers’ Helpline.
Visit www.nobutts.ucsd.edu.
Secondhand Smoke
Secondhand smoke can kill. It affects children more
than adults because their lungs are still developing.
It can cause Sudden Infant Death (SIDS), colds, ear
infections, asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia in children.
If you can’t stop smoking right now, smoke outdoors
and away from others. Keep your home and car smoke-free.
